I just used it myself.
Yes I did. I was having problems figuring out a formula for a dashboard. Wanted to sum up the transactions in a column where it only sums it up if the transaction was done within the last month. Not the past 30 days, but last month.
Meaning the formula had to know the date today, and go back a month and filter for the last month. It ended up being a combination of QUERY and EOMONTH.
EOMONTH is particularly awesome because you can get the “end of month date” for the last month. by entering a -1 in the second part of the formula. Then when you get last month, you can get the 1st date of the current month. But do -2 and you get two months ago, and thus add one to the date and you get the 1st day of the last month.
😅 phew. that’s a mouthful.
I go over this idea about the EOMONTH formula in this tutorial → Find the Start date of the Current and End date of the Current Month
Back to the formula generator.
It actually worked. It combined the QUERY formula which is always tough to get just right, and the EOMONTH formula.
I made a similar test here for you to see the result of. This one used SUMIF, as I expected, not query. But my previous use case was much more intricate. This one is simply SUMIF of this month minus the SUMIF of last month.
As you can see the formula is generated on the page.
And it will copy to your clipboard so you can use it right away in your sheets.
